Accessibilty and Search Engine Optomisation 1st October 2006

Ensuring your next website is built using valid xhtml and css will greatly improve your website’s search engine friendliness. This works because the code and construction of the website is done in such a way to ensure that the rendered markup is suitable for software that aids people with various disabilities. The major search engines (like Google, for example) prefer correctly constructed websites as they are easier to index.
Good practise routines (like separating style from content) helps to minimise the amount of code rendered on the page and this what seach engines love — a page full of relevant content and not arduous amounts of obtrusive code.
Please also bear the following in mind when reading up about SEO; there are two types of search engine optimisation — one known as “black-hat” and the other “white-hat”. Black-hat SEO tends to be the results of trying to achieve a good position in search engines using any means possible, whereas white-hat SEO is ensuring that the code and content of the website produces the good position.
